@aurabogado I heard it all the time, and as I kid I would challenge it. Eventually I heard it less, but my family still uses it.

@Besito86@aurabogado What's the translation for that word? Is there a literal one? I'm asking, u can say it. -
@WeSeeRace It would be like the n-word in English.
@Besito86 -
@aurabogado I know, but what exactly IS a m? Is it specifically a slur or does the word have dual meaning? -
@WeSeeRace It derives from a Náhuatl word for a dung beetle, and it's just about the worst slur.
-
@aurabogado Why dung beetle? Is that a reference to how we supposedly stink or a color reference? -
@WeSeeRace I should add that most people don't know the origin of the word. They just know it's a really racist word.
-
@aurabogado Hmmm.. kinda like white folks who don't understand the origin of THEIR anti-Blackness, they just know it hurts US, right

@aurabogado No, rarely if ever. Guatemala's most widespread and entrenched racism, though, is anti-indigenous. -
@followthelede Not what my Garifuna friends in LA tell me.... -
@aurabogado@followthelede Not all Garifuna are black or ID as such. Sone don't even look it. They're legally recognized as Native American

@aurabogado still do!They don't "see" it as offensive. Ironically, till black folk are around since that word is def known -
@floresitas I think we need to push back on the idea that people don't know it's offensive.... -
@aurabogado I was being sarcastic =\ I agree..w/Mexicans (IMO) it's hard cus if I say anything, everyone says "oh we make fun of everyone!"
