On one of your points: I have never seen a slow moving brush fire. The Cedar and Witch fires blew by my area fast, burned through recently burned and old growth with the same fury. They followed the wind and terrain towards the sea, not vegetation patterns.

On another. I grow and have burned the native white sage leaves. Dispute being very oily, the dried out leaves smolder like tobacco. The same is true for Laurel Sumach.

Well, agree on one thing, wealthy folk move into wild areas and expect the environment to be changed to suit them. I rarely see any love for what's growing there. FYI, I am not wealthy. Hardly. I have lived here, hiked the chaparral and grown native plants for 45 years.
