This is ICE's Separated Parent's Removal Form, posted on FB by Ava Benach. Parents who are being deported have two choices: leave them behind or take them with you. (Oh, but if you take them with you, they won't be able to attend court on any asylum claim.)pic.twitter.com/3HPRqVy3ms

Here's the full PDF of ICE's Separated Parent's Removal Form. Note that the biographical information is available in Spanish and English. But the instructions and signatures lines? English only.https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4573309-Separated-Parent-Removal-Form.html …

Ok so can we tweet about how bad these translations are? "Parent name" can be translated as "Nombre de un padre." What it says here is "Nombre de padre," which means "Father's name." ICE's translation doesn't include mothers.

Same with A#: this doesn't include mothers. "Country of citizenship" should be "País de ciudadanía." They left out the accents. "Child(ren) name(s)" could be "Nombre(s) de hijo/a." They have "Nombre de hijo," which means "son's name." Sons, not daughters. Singular, not plural.

I'm a fluent Spanish-language speaker/reader/writer. I recently declined to interpret an interview for tv because doing so is a profession. I didn't want to be off. You'd think a form to reunite parents with their children would be translated correctly. That didn't happen here.

This form is deceitful & misleading. These poor immigrants are on their own for the most part desperately needing to know where their children are, if they’re safe, when they’ll be able to hold them. So ICE shoves a form in their face to sign if they want to see the babies again.

Isn't presuming Spanish people are too stupid to read the word signature in their own language, and then not signing it a bit racist?

Ya but what they are agreeing to sign for is not in Spanish so if they only speak Spanish and don't gave a translator.. oh well 🤷🏼‍♀️

I keep thinking about the fact that someone went to work one day, got a cup of coffee, engaged in some small talk with his coworkers, maybe went to a morning meeting and then sat down to create this document as if they were creating a new form to request a new printer. No souls.

And......if you don't speak Spanish, you're just SOL! And, even if you do speak English or Spanish, can you really understand this form?

I was thinking about that when I saw your previous post. Like WTH?! How many people are having that read to them and understand what they're signing?! Infuriating. Thanks for sharing this.
