This is ICE's Separated Parent's Removal Form, posted on FB by Ava Benach. Parents who are being deported have two choices: leave them behind or take them with you. (Oh, but if you take them with you, they won't be able to attend court on any asylum claim.)pic.twitter.com/3HPRqVy3ms

Here's the full PDF of ICE's Separated Parent's Removal Form. Note that the biographical information is available in Spanish and English. But the instructions and signatures lines? English only.https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4573309-Separated-Parent-Removal-Form.html …

Ok so can we tweet about how bad these translations are? "Parent name" can be translated as "Nombre de un padre." What it says here is "Nombre de padre," which means "Father's name." ICE's translation doesn't include mothers.

Same with A#: this doesn't include mothers. "Country of citizenship" should be "País de ciudadanía." They left out the accents. "Child(ren) name(s)" could be "Nombre(s) de hijo/a." They have "Nombre de hijo," which means "son's name." Sons, not daughters. Singular, not plural.

I'm a fluent Spanish-language speaker/reader/writer. I recently declined to interpret an interview for tv because doing so is a profession. I didn't want to be off. You'd think a form to reunite parents with their children would be translated correctly. That didn't happen here.

Am I reading this right in that there is no option presented on this form for parents to apply for asylum with their children in their “custody”? Sorry, I cannot think of a better way to express having their kids back.

Coercion. On the plus side, it means parents can sue for asylum on the grounds that they were coerced into signing deportation papers if they wanted to see their children again. On the minus side What The Actual Fuck Kind of EVIL Scumbags Would Do Such a Thing?!!!

The “family values” party: 1. build up hatred toward and attack all immigrants as criminals/MS13. 2. Focus energy/efforts on some of the most vulnerable people in world. 3. Separate kids from parents. 4. Dangle reunification as a carrot to deny due process to legit asylum claims

So, they don’t want them to come here “illegally”, but if they do, they’re keeping their kids in the U.S., & sending the parents back? Therefore, making “American taxpayers” pay for their care. 🤔🤔🤔 this makes 0 sense.

Know someone who signed one of these, will she have any recourse later re her asylum claim if these forms are deemed illegal by the courts?
