People keep asking me how we got here. Here’s what I keep asking: How many tv shows are there that feature immigrant families? How many films center the mixed-status families we all belong to? Can you name five immigrant latina directors? How about five latino producers?

It’s easier for the general public to believe that latinxs immigrants are animals when we’re rarely represented as anything else. We’re never experts. We’re hardly human. What do you do with animals? You put them in cages. And then some.
