If you thought cages were bad, I hate to break it to you: It gets much, much worse. Drunk employees. Sexual assault. The forced administration of heavy psychotropic drugs that leave children "hypnotized." This is a ten-year-old I've been spending time with. He arrived to the US in October. His mom was already here. Staff noted he really wanted to leave; he even tried to run away. So they put him a "medical treatment center" called Shiloh in a tiny town called Manvel, Texas.pic.twitter.com/PpyGdI81rl

We were able to obtain a list of each and every single ORR facility in the United States. Shiloh is one of only two medical treatment centers. But this medical treatment center is a mostly a bunch of trailers in rural Texas. What's more: AT LEAST ONE CHILD HAS DIED AT SHILOH.

Our tax dollars are paying to send very little children to Shiloh, which has received more than $25 million in the past five years. This little Garifuna child, originally from Honduras, was NINE YEARS OLD when he entered. I've examined hundreds of documents related to his story.

I obtained text messages where this child’s mom, Maribel Bernardez, was given instructions by her son’s case worker at Shiloh to wire money across state lines to buy her son things from outside. There’s no government oversight of this. But I obtained the Western Union receipts.pic.twitter.com/5XONySnh1f

Maribel was sometimes able to see her son by video. He was "hypnotized and lethargic,” she told me. She demanded to see what he was on. Someone from Shiloh sent a photo from a computer. When he came home, she put his drugs away. They're in an overflowing giant freezer bag.

Maribel NEVER authorized Shiloh to medicate her child. What’s more, she begged them to stop. This is the affidavit Shiloh staffers sign as if they are the “Parent, Guardian, or Conservator.” Actual parents like Maribel never even see this form. “What’s this? she asked me.pic.twitter.com/98DLgDTNg5

The first time I spoke with Maribel's son, I asked him to tell me about a day at Shiloh. He left in April and he remembers quite a bit. Like brushing his teeth. Getting dressed. GETTING PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED BY A STAFFER. He mentioned it casually and says it happened all the time.

A lot of people are asking me where girls are kept by ORR. They’re kept in a lot of places. One of those places is the Shiloh Treatment Center. Records I’ve obtained indicate there were several girls there in the past year, and it’s likely they’re still there now.

Children in institutions are frequently drugged; this includes foster care too. Even powerful anti-psychotics are used to control the behavior of traumatized children.

Aren’t they breaking state laws? state laws? If they are operating within state, they must follow state laws. Shut those facilities down and indict everyone who breaks any state law

Technically, since her son had been legally removed from her, he was a ward of the state, and the state and its agents had legal authority to act as his guardian and do what they felt was in his best interest.
