Just learned about the term incel. Holy toxic masculinity.

first time I heard the term it was without the toxic part, meaning that it was a term used by those people who didn't have relationships... I thought it actually emphasized an important aspect of our society. I guess internet ruins everything, again.

I find it deeply problematic, because “involuntary” suggests someone has been denied something, with the implication there was a right to it in the first place. There is no right to an activity that requires another human’s consent.

I agree with you, and probably I miss sth in translation. I see that there is a sort of entitlement in this, and that is wrong. OTOH, there is the desire/need of a relationship that there is not, for whatever reason. I see a lot of pain too (which then can become toxic).

Anyway, I don't want to enable a term that is now unusable. I just think that single (often white) men on the internet are a *huge* part of the demography, and often part of the problem. I think our community is definitely not immune.

I had friends that (maybe wrongly, from my part) I'd have labeled as "incel" (if it were a neutral term). They are not here anymore.
