@attritionorg What do you think about @gitlab?

-
@voodooKobra@gitlab never used it -
@attritionorg@gitlab It is open source, so if they have similar shittiness at least fixes can be suggested -
@voodooKobra@gitlab uh, open source and "fixes suggested" are why open source are the realm of the minority still. -
@attritionorg Is that so? I've not heard this argument before -
@voodooKobra i was a die-hard fan of OS. then i worked on a project that was grounded in that model. OS is bad for 99% of projects. -
@attritionorg@voodooKobra I see the way Red Hat does it as an example. What did go wrong, where should we learn? -
@stonehead@voodooKobra RH is the minority as far as OS goes, by far. - 4 more replies

@attritionorg in my experience developers are 2nd class users whose concerns are ignored because there's no revenue there -
-
@attritionorg for software that generates revenue, developers aren't the decision makers. that's just not how the business of sw dev works -
@imaguid you'd think so yeah? i know first-hand, that is not true in some companies. -
@attritionorg i'm a developer. developers don't steer the ship. developers who rise to that level stop being developers before getting there -
@imaguid in most shops? probably! in a few shops, I *guarantee* that isn't how it works. -
@attritionorg the biz side of things is too time consuming for a dev to stay in touch with dev work and vice versa. can't serve 2 masters

@attritionorg so is Gmail. Inbox is nothing but gmail with the power features stripped out and a fresh coat of material paint. -
@indrora yeah, Google UI / UX choices are another exercise in futility and dev != user. -
@attritionorg I'm (as a pretty power gmail user) liking inbox though. They have worked to solve the SNR problem in email.
