@attritionorg just attended Security Onion. Keynote discussed status of SO, who is using, what pieces, etc. Set expectations for rest of day

@Stephs_GT500 that is a pretty specific conference content wise though -
@attritionorg how do you set tone when a con has many topics? Personally I like the Defcon keynote. Covers the intent & purpose of the con. -
@Stephs_GT500 but again, DC is very broad, the tone is set by the talks not a keynote in reality. -
@attritionorg I think I misunderstood your original tweet. I've got a 9 hour drive to attempt to come up with a good response! -
@Stephs_GT500 i was asking in very general terms, what one would hope to get out of an infosec keynote. -
@attritionorg unfortunately, I went in a different direction.

@attritionorg if you are organized I expect it to set a tone for the conference, not just be a disjointed one-off -
@scmunk these days, most confs are multi track and cover gambit of security. how do you set the 'tone' for that? (have ideas but not sure) -
@attritionorg if you don't have a theme like mobile or app you can talk about direction, new horz stuff in edu/skills/what to do -
@attritionorg opening should affect the most for the intended audience,#infosec is wide -
@scmunk right, I know it has to be more broad, appeal to a bigger group. that is challenging without making it dull. -
@attritionorg I would go with a big WHY then, why something matters, not how to do it, that brings motivation -
@scmunk that is close to what i have in mind actually

@attritionorg a good seat for whatever talk comes after the keynote in that room -
@jhebertocx see, that is how I feel *most* keynotes are viewed these days. i'd rather not be that keynote. -
@attritionorg actually, I'm confident you won't be. I'm just being snarky about other keynotes I've seen. Good luck and have fun! -
@jhebertocx i am worried about that. why i am soliciting feedback and doing what i can to make sure it is worth listening to.

@attritionorg breakfast/lunch, a couple of amusing anecdotes... And a healthy dose of a broader perspective.@RealGeneKim had a good one -
@grey_area what made@RealGeneKim's a good one to you? -
@attritionorg@RealGeneKim in other words, not a cascade of stats, and looking at infosec in context of the IT function & the org -
@grey_area gotcha, thanks for the perspective -
@attritionorg I rarely have any of that to give. Bad advice and whiskey, though....
