@attritionorg that sounds like a lot of standards boards, yes

@hypatiadotca some random company board? sure, don't care. security industry-influence? the squirrel can't abide. -
@attritionorg yeah, one wastes shareholder money, the other wastes everyone's time :/ -
@hypatiadotca yes. it's even public, them clearly saying they are voting for X based on their company needs.#stillnotpublic -
@attritionorg I don't even think it's wrong to state one's bias in advocating for things in standards; the dead weight is far worse. -
@hypatiadotca they stated their bias, without realizing they were violating the posted board rules of "for the industry". it's that bad. -
@attritionorg erk, yeah, that's bad. -
@hypatiadotca in that case, it is more "leeching off the benefit of their position", than the traditional definition we agree on - 3 more replies

@attritionorg#dilemma sounds painful -
@ltawfall it is. i just want it to be painful for the problem members of the board, not me. tequila and knives can only last so long. -
@attritionorg I'm sure you can figure a way to accomplish that.. ;) -
@ltawfall i'm drinking more tequila now actually

@attritionorg Most "boards" I have either been on, or been apart of, feel the same. Most people just like the sense of power. -
@_printf worse, this board gives them the power to steer an industry standard to benefit their company specifically.#afkthrowingup -
@attritionorg Reason #482 why I have become disenchanted with the infosec community. -
@_printf me too. i am quickly losing hold on the few areas I desperately care about.

@attritionorg Suggest they nominate replacements. You can be sympathetic to their other obligations but take the burden on you. -
@Packetknife problem: the current noms are all ... "great people". same way charlatans are "great people to drink with!" -
@attritionorg If you can stomach it, and I know you shouldn't ~have to~, suggest they screen ~your~ own replacement suggestions. -
@Packetknife no. fighting to drop the deadweight first. i won't give in that fast. this is an *industry accepted standard*.#tooimportant - 2 more replies
