I just had someone tell me they've spent over 20 years in #InfoSec ...call me skeptical.
@dorianmuthig @Wh1t3Rabbit Nah, in 2012, claiming 20 years of security is reasonable, but not the #s that claim it.

@attritionorg@dorianmuthig Fair point, which is why it's critical for HR to know who they're hiring... -
@Wh1t3Rabbit@dorianmuthig #1 biggest problem. admin who does 10% security as his job. did he do 'infosec' or not? (most claims count it) -
@attritionorg@dorianmuthig I'd say it's fair to claim experience at 50/50 ... it's not just 'hacking' that counts -
@Wh1t3Rabbit@dorianmuthig Other big thing. Does the person have 1 year of experience 20x over? Or 20 years of experience. =) -
@attritionorg@dorianmuthig Another fair point. Although this gets into an area that is difficult to judge... right exp for right job role

@attritionorg@Wh1t3Rabbit It's not reasonable at all, cause 15 years ago, nobody gave a s**t, and there were no protective measures to know -
@dorianmuthig@Wh1t3Rabbit@kylemaxwell We had firewalls (http://bit.ly/WGro2z ) and IDS (http://bit.ly/WGrmYq ) back then even! -
@attritionorg@Wh1t3Rabbit@kylemaxwell Computers were expensive back then, stupid expensive and those who could afford them didn't care... -
@dorianmuthig@attritionorg I think you must have been a kid or at least not involved at the time. The CFAA was passed in '86... -
@kylemaxwell@attritionorg Yes, & back then you needed to have access to the physical machines as well, only government cared. Not consumers -
@dorianmuthig@kylemaxwell Yes! Security was achieved by burying the computer in the ground to ensure no remote connections. -
@attritionorg@kylemaxwell And that requires no skill, so claiming 20 years of "skill" is being full of s**t. Or do you want to deny that? -
@dorianmuthig@kylemaxwell Like I said, firewalls, IDS, oh my! Even back then... so 20 years is certainly possible. - 7 more replies
