Search engines are as useless now as Altavista used to be. I know exactly what I’m looking for I put in the keywords. In quotes. And the domain. Results are something recent with one keyword. Not even the correct domain. Why doesn’t google have “2005 mode”? When it worked.

and I literally do searches for 'new' content based on numeric designations (e.g. CVE IDs) on a daily basis, often getting no results, trying again 3, 6, 9, 12 hours later and finding them. or other times, not finding anything a month later.

Yeah, I know it’s complex. Hit I just want results from my tumblr where I copied a student protest guide. It was Kenyan students. I want to link to it. I can’t find it. I got results for KGB agent handling. It is not a tricky search I believe. This domain, this keyword.

Part of the problem is using 'popularity' as part of the metrics, which seems much more prevalent than it was 10-15 years ago. The whole show seems predicated on "you don't know what you are looking for, so we will guess" and "you can't even type accurately".
