Today, my office filed homicide charges against the former officer who shot and killed Keita O’Neil, an unarmed, Black man in 2017. As far as we are aware, this is the first time in San Francisco history that an officer has been prosecuted for homicide.

Is “San Francisco making history” the goal? How aware can you be when murders and robberies are way up, yet you deflect with “overall crime is down” as if the fate of this city is inconsequential?

Pretty sure he's arguing that holding police accountable is the goal. That's a good thing, irrespective of anything else, right?

I can read what he wrote, thank you. Of course police should be held accountable, I don’t see anyone suggesting otherwise. The hype however, is that, “we’re first” as elected officials (who don’t hold themselves or each other to account) seems to be the celebratory event.

It is kind of a big deal, and you're making an assumption that this fact was shared out of ego. I can easily believe it's more of a "holy shit, can you believe this is the first cop to actually face homicide charges. EVER!" We need more accountability. This is a good start.
