One of the biggest workplace mistakes I’ve seen people in tech make is waiting for permission to leave work on time. If you don’t value your time, nobody will.

Not sure I understand what you mean by “permission to leave work on time”.

It isn't literal permission. It's the "pressure" to stay at work after hours.

I did get that part, but I’m not quite sure why you think it’s a mistake for people to stay at work after hours. I view it as a sign of dedication when someone’s willing put in extra time.

There's dedication, and then there are employers who will abuse that and expect their employees to stay late as "the norm". So I can see both sides on this. If I stay late or work late hours, it's because I'm dedicated.

Exactly. It shouldn’t be expected, but if employees voluntarily wish to put it extra time, it does speak to their level of commitment.

Of course. I'm talking about the people who stay at work because of pressure to do so and blame everyone about it but themselves.
