I don't really consider this to be fasting though. Doesn't seem long enough. For most, I think it helps with bored eating.

You know what also helps with bored eating? Not being hungry. If you find yourself exploring the kitchen, just make some damn food.

I believe the general implication of bored eating is that it's done when you aren't actually hungry. Or your diet is shit.

I definitely don't restrict myself from eating for the sake of it but there is science to back this as well.

Yep totally. You scavenge for food when you lack nutrients your body needs. Hunger isn’t always about calories.
