Is this typical private school behavior? What percentage of the boys actually did this stuff?
-

-
I don't know - small percentage, I would say, but they were the top dogs at my school - also a private school - and, no, we didn't see it for the dysfunctional behaviour that it was. Girls tried to look out for each other, but they still seemed to find the vulnerable ones.
-
Also, there were a number of 'nice' boys (who often stayed more sober) and watched out for girls at risk and kept them away from the not nice boys.

Spiked drinks were common. I was in college in early 80s. I was not a party person, but was careful at the few I attended. Things can get out of hand easily with alcohol and young people. I taught hs and heard my students discuss parties that were as wild as described in Slate.

Love, "things get out of hand easily with alcohol". We would go to HP with all the happiness a Friday night in HS could bring and before we knew it, someone was a mess and frequently left to take care of themselves - we were so stupid - and bad things did happen.

"And now, as the prep-school boys are running the country and a kind of masculine backlash has taken hold of our democracy, it feels like we’re back in high school again." In college I was horrified to imagine this future, now we are here.

OH this has been decades in the making. I remember the phrase future leaders of the world. It was always said to somebody else. I could hear faintly in the distance knowing it was not intended for my ears.

Kavanaugh's calendar highlights "Beach Week" and house parties, so I would say his alibi places him directly at the scene in question.
-
exactly - several parties are listed on specific dates. Seems like good investigative work could illuminate this... Parties at Urgo's Timmy's, Donny's, EJ's, Squi's... oh, and 4th of July FFFFFest at Anne Daughtry's is confirmed...tennis with Mom at Columbia Country Club... sweet

"Georgetown Preparatory School in Rockville held a conference with parents to discuss the problem of unsupervised parties and similar activities." (WaPo 1990) That is Kavanaugh's school.https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/1990/02/04/area-headmasters-warn-parents-of-student-parties/06927fdb-a9fb-4a1c-89bb-8b004e21825e …

This stuff or similar was NOT uncommon in the 80's. Even in small , rural southern communities. How many heard "put out or get out"? We all had something happen or knew someone closely who had it happen. It wasn't even thought of as rape. A girl was responsible if she drank.
-
And people think kids would have reported it? A girl would have been ruined to talk about it. That's why they stayed in packs.

Good gawd. This is anything but normal. I am about the same age as these individuals and NOTHING like this ever happened in my realm.
@georgetownprep should be investigated. -
Been saying that since story broke.

At my public school in Howard County Maryland, where some of the same happened, it was called a train. Took me a while to understand... we also talked about the kids that went to the Catholic schools as being way worse than anything we ever did.
-
I went to Catholic grade school, high school, AND college, all during the 60’s and 70’s. I am still processing my experience. Sober almost 30 years now.
-
I’m sure there were good people in catholic schools, I’m sorry that was your experience. Some of our public schools in those areas were a mess too. Good for you.
