I can conceive of a realpolitik justification for abandoning the Kurds, although I doubt I would agree with it. I cannot conceive of a defense the WAY Pres Trump implemented this withdrawal of US forces.

Hmm? In realpolitik, alliances have aims; they're not perpetual brotherhood. We provided advisors to help locals who were already fighting the Islamic State to end its territorial existence. That end having been achieved, the alliance is over, and our advisors are leaving.
