Reminder from a few years back: Google and Facebook (ahem, Alphabet and Meta) are 95% advertising businesses. There is a limit to how much value ads can add to an economy (<1.5% of GDP). The shock after so many years is that they did not diversify. Innovative they are not.

Hard disagree. Much of the value created (through company creation and growth) wouldn’t have been possible without ads. You run those yourself for your company. There are however new big players in the ads market (Apple, Amazon, TikTok) forcing a market split + shift in dynamics

it is precisely because Apple has attained business innovation and wide adoptions and relevant profit in different categories that allowed it to stay ahead. I think Bezos said it best: "Innovation is not Disruptive; Consumer Adoption Is."

I believe the quote was _invention_ NOT _innovation_. He knew and understood the difference. I have catalogued 140 successful adoption curves (innovations). There are literally millions of unadopted inventions (hundreds per day.)
