Now, just think of all the time spent on this issue: on public discussion, on media attention, on government meetings, on legislative process... All just so the state can tell about 150 women what they should wear...

Does anyone really think this was such a major priority? Was it really worth all that effort just to undermine the rights of a few women? Or was so much effort really done for some other reason: like so that politicians can whip up fear about Muslims maybe?

As in, “be afraid of these scary people - we’ll protect you...” A theatre of fear-mongering while no doubt ignoring dozens of real issues. And all because it’s simply easy to lash out at a tiny minority of a minority that won’t have the power to fight back.

That’s some serious political cowardice there.

It’s a fair guess millions of Muslim women are wearing bikinis this summer all along the Mediterranean littoral in Europe and in North Africa. Burqa bans are dog-whistle measures used to stigmatize all Muslims. That said, would like to see more bikinis on Saudi beaches.
