Like many other cities in the U.S., SF is facing an overdose crisis. It's time to turn to solutions that work: safe injection sites provide lifesaving care that our city desperately needs. In the wake of the surge in ODs, we need them now more than ever.https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/Philadelphia-case-could-clear-the-way-for-safe-15728969.php …

Can you say more about why safe injection sites help? I have a hard time imagining how this works. We have 25k intravenous drug users here. Is the idea they go there to use? Don't most want to use with friends?

I think the question should be will it have a ventilated 'smoking' area for smoking Fentanyl and Meth since that is becoming the primary ingestion method of these drugs.

Isn't it much harder to OD smoking opiates than shooting them? (+ eliminating risk of infection). These sites are meant to reduce ODs. Ideally we could get people interested enough in quitting they could try the methadone route. Certainly a difficult topic with no easy answers.

With Heroin, yes. It is harder. But not with Fentanyl. The majority of users on the street (including myself when I was using, smoked it. It's that strong.

Damn, that's troubling. Glad you made it out.
