Still haven’t flown since my recent op and am missing it. I’m not a particularly patient patient...

Thanks to all those amazing out there. A bunch of professionals who work anti social hours and often face pressures left, right and centre of all kinds. I certainly appreciate the care given to me over the last 24 hours.

Tramadol. Good stuff, it would seem.

Had an operation a few hours ago and absolutely cannot sleep! Kind of reminds me of being longhaul again... but with slightly more pain!! Can’t even escape pension talk - the bloke across the ward has just been advising the nurse all about it! 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

A long night for many, including these poor people! Safe flights to all - and thanks to our ATCOs, who provide such a brilliant service.

Yoinks. Odiham getting a bit of a battering!

May sound a bit weird... but I feel like I’m missing out a bit by not flying in these (horrendous) winds. Weather is always a challenge - and always due immense respect. It’s also where we hone skills and implement decision making - often under pressure. Safe flying, all.

A Boeing 727 (M-STAR) has just flown right over my house, at around 1500 ft... you can’t beat that sound - certainly made me look up. 😍 Probably a good day to be on the ground wishing you were up there, rather than the other way around... 🤣

Despite the soaking rain yesterday before I started my walkaround, I’m a sucker for a pretty aircraft... and our new A350s are indeed very pretty. Bearing in mind I pan back to my equally pretty A320 at the end, of course... 😬

If anything drives me to insanity, it’s THIS! We don’t need more lanes - we need drivers to use the ones we have correctly.

Two days of graft, hard work and training. Incredibly useful - and stuff which will genuinely make me more effective at work. Still, it’s always nice to get a sim check out of the way!

Can you guess what it is yet? I’ll give you a clue - it’s not a kangaroo. Nor is it a GE engine...

It’s that time, the night before a sim check. It’s only my second on type and I feel (hope?!) that I’ve done all that I can to prepare. Equally, there’s a danger in over preparing, and being too stressed. So it’s time to try and unwind before it all kicks off tomorrow!

Utterly tragic news - the loss of our cabin crew colleagues on New Year’s Eve. So young, and so much potential - fair to say that the mood at work at the moment is understandably sombre as we struggle to understand it. Heartfelt sympathy to the victims and families concerned. 😔

“Not much on the tele tonight, Skipper...” 🙄 Unsurprisingly, the faulty display unit was replaced with a shiny new one and we were on our way, with no more than a 10 minute delay. Which I appreciated, having had to wake up at 0345 this morning...

Well, hopefully that was the go around practice for the sim completed...

It’s a funny old time of year. We exchange greetings and pleasantries, all due to the fact that we’ve all successfully completed another lap of the sun. Odd.

You have to try in life. Unless you’re departing CDG and would like a closer runway for departure... 🤣 Happy New Year/Bonne Année, all.

Well, safely back home and mission accomplished. Approach lights seen 60 ft above decision altitude - not uncommon in Russia! Even after deicing, not a bad trip. Dramatic shot of PAPIs shining in the murk taken as we were being deiced - atmospheric!
