Like X-COM, #Battletech is 3-dimensional chess, harder to crack esp. with underpowered lances before advancing the story to shorten repair/healing time. But advancing the story requires better hardware, which you can only scavenge from harder missions. Catch-22, lots of reloads.

I’m kinda looking for something deep and tactical to drag me away from the fast-food of pubg. But don’t want it >too< deep that I bounce of it when feeling lazy.

Well, you can conceivably play Battletech gung-ho, w.o constant salvaging/tactics optimization & the save-scumming it requires, but tweaking mechs in the shop is where it’s at. Not gonna lie to you, it is a time sink if you’re a gearhead :)

Tbh I’m a bit annoyed that Phoenix Point was delayed till next year. That was going to be my tactics game this year

Ah, I wasn’t aware. Still, it’ll benefit from a deep story & strategy layer, and seeing as the gameplay is solid already, I can wait for a better product. (Face it, Battletech is your only option, take the plunge, Commander :p)
