Like X-COM, #Battletech is 3-dimensional chess, harder to crack esp. with underpowered lances before advancing the story to shorten repair/healing time. But advancing the story requires better hardware, which you can only scavenge from harder missions. Catch-22, lots of reloads.
Interestingly enough, like XCOM2, Battletech has built-in “anti-RNG” balancing, but that doesn’t make it easy or predictable. Shots often miss, and the AI can score devastating barrages to punish bad tactics.
