After two weeks of tracking, at least 29% of all DNS queries by devices on my home network are for ads.
Whoa. Makes the case for comprehensive ad blocking. I wonder if a large scale research could be done on that.

I avoided updating YouTube on my Android TV as the new version plays ads mid-video. Caved in eventually and updated only to get fed up within a week and install network-level ad blocker. That’s how I’m tracking now.

~30% of DNS queries is significant also in terms of thermal load. I won’t buy a new Android device unless I’m fairly sure the OS has improved its security & I can root it to block ads device-wide.

I think the easiest way to conduct a cost-free study is to ask existing Pi-hole users to share their data. Though, the sample will be skewed as anyone bothering to set-up Pi-hole is likely to be a heavy consumer.
