BLACK PANTHER is the only good Marvel movie, sorry
Winter Soldier was pretty good, too, merging the themes of rising fascism & pervasive surveillance pretty well with the source material (plus the live action).

meh. it wasn't that good
-
I wish they hadn't ended Black Panther with a feel-good ending featuring Wakandan outreach centres opening up in poor areas, as though that wasn't the thing that the actual Black Panthers became public enemy number one for.

Haven’t watched BP yet, but I’m aware of the public discourse/controversy over shaping the post-colonial message. Upside, it did represent/augment pride in diversity, and got people talking about the “villain’s” PoV.

Although the way they emphasised Killmongers personal revenge motives, & made him super bloodthirsty, took away from his social injustice motivations IMO. Could have been a lot more challenging in that regard, like mirroring US imperialist discourse but from the opposite end.

I’ll come back to this thread after I’ve watched it, it’s the most interesting part of the BP discourse. The mere fact that there’s a discourse on this is a good thing, is my point :) cc
@JShahryar -
Oh for sure. There was a really excellent thread written about it that went viral.

Also, stuff like this https://twitter.com/tamerelg/status/988860643896954880?s=21 … now being part of the political culture, definite win

PS: On a related note, I definitely recommend
@CinemaWinner’s nuanced takes on pop culture’s cinematic touchstones (and not just as counterpoint to@cinemasins)
