In other words, that effort in Myanmar that Zuck was bragging about in his Vox interview? A disaster, from the perspective of Myanmar tech and civil society players.https://twitter.com/Phandeeyar/status/981942970185203712 …

There's a lot of good people inside the company who are trying to listen. But a ship as big as Facebook is a hard one to turn. And Zuck himself has a near religious certainty that Facebook's growth strategy is good for the world.
Frankly, at this point, Zuck's growth cult is on polar opposites w/ what we've been trying to do in @globalvoices for yrs https://summit2017.globalvoices.org/2017/12/the-mess-of-us-the-best-of-us/ … and it's grating that he overuses the word "community" to describe what Facebook has evolved (devolved?) into. With respect, sensei :)
We're not as good at being a community as I would like us to be, but there's no way we'll get closer by having either RMack or me be the figure to rally around. There'a big difference in building a company around "community" and building a real community.
Perhaps, but we're the most inspiring community I've ever had the fortune of being a part of (and that coming from a habitual wary loner). Arguably, if there's a way to build community around a company (or vice versa), Zuck's going about it in all the wrong ways, at least.
