There's the catch though, if they detect that you use it constantly in roaming they can start charging you with roaming fees. So that is not a solution really.

What?! Is that even legal? Or charging roaming fees to local subscribers that call locally to EU numbers?

I'm afraid it is legal, there's a clause in the EU regulation that defines that exactly. If you use your connection in roaming for a long amount of time, your provider has the right to impose roaming fees.

Just check the relevant local providers here in Greece, they all define this in their terms. But it does not apply just to Greek ones, all EU mobile carriers do so. Or, CAN do so.
