No. No. The half of Corey that works for GRRM should have learned the lessons of GoT. You can get away with anything if you have good actors.

Yeah. Like the lead. Guess if you’re a self-righteous space captain called Jim you’re obligated to be played by a terrible actor
-
I'm pretty sure the duo intended him as a caricature of James Tiberius, at least initially, and Strait fits that bill. The character does mature in the books (after becoming insufferably self-righteous and a jerk), and arguably, in the series.

Besides, some of the cringiest scenes in the series are also some of the most epic oneshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A98vqgBsoxQ …

Yeah. Afraid the cringe breaks it for me. still love the books, but no. Discovery is another matter. Top notch acting all around.

There's plenty of cringe-free great acting in the series, but I get your point https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_65cOKxoJ_U … I can look past some amount of cringe if the overall effort is competent & passionate
-
And I get yours. I can't. It's like what I imagine tunefulness must be for people who are musical in a way I'm not. There are some decent actors (none great) and some dreadful ones, and that's it. I watch it, but I can't care for it.
