From my 10-yr old Canon XSi thru 2 newer DSLRs, even newest iPhones, each sensor captures ~10% of photons that fall onto a pixel. “Shot noise” per Poisson dominates. Small sensors…low light…high ISOs can mean as few as a dozen hits…values may err ±50%. Physics changes slowly
