Need to blab about #Dark a bit, before I get to the last ep. It's arguably a brilliant, though drab, slow burner, but not primarily b/c of the mystery. In the way it examines the ailments of human community, it's the true successor to Twin Peaks.
#Dark grew on me but I wasn't bowled over by its direction or even cinematography, too much cliched dread music-hammering. By way of comparison, Trapped was way more masterful, economic & direct.

That said, both Dark & Trapped are eminently binge-able (I generally don't binge series, but I double-tapped both). Also, Hollywood has nothing to match either, currently, to my knowledge.

Another thing common to Dark & Trapped, that elevates them above run-of-the-mill crime fiction, is the connection to local history & politics. Hollywood can stand to learn a great deal from both, but shouldn't try to appropriate (see also, this rant https://twitter.com/asteris/status/946909616121802752 …)

Have you seen Babylon Berlin? How does it compare?

Oh, suggestions, keep them coming. Never heard of it, but I'll certainly look it up. I absolutely loved Trapped, my fave smalltown crime series in recent memory.

Aha, this looks to be interesting as well http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4445154/ … I'll check them both out, let me know of any other exceptional German series
