Geeking out w my Macbook Pro 2014, which I barely ever configured beyond basics. Have to admit there's decent coding potential w elegant tools (Homebrew etc.), but GNUtils > BSDutils & the Python schism just sux

So yeah, I did most of the stuff on here https://alternativeto.net/list/718/macos-terminal-setup-to-boost-your-productivity … and my zsh terminal now looks badass spiffy, but I still need to learn to remember to use "productivity" tools, shortcuts etc.

Also, none of that stuff are any easier to install/config than comparable geekery on Linux, and I wager it can get hairier on MacOS if you start hitting permission/incompatibility barriers (dear old bloody Python...)

Linux can often be a mess, but it's my mess & I'll miss it on MacOS. I'm not a manpage wizard, but I can navigate Linux fuzz effectively/safely for the most part (besides scratching some persistent itches)

System Python vs Brew / Anaconda / what have you Pythons. Let alone the 2 vs 3 schism in general. I never really coded on Python per se, but had to live with it for ~2 decades on Linux

I see. An issue for me in the past, too. With brew it’s easy peasy, can’t really complain. I don’t use coda ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Have to say, Atom looks pretty awesome, I haven't tangled heavily w IDE-like editors since the Eclipse days. Maybe one of these days I'll attempt to start coding again ;)

I refuse to install any and all Electron-based apps and especially IDEs. Sublime Text 3, Vim are perfect. For Java I’m content with IntelliJ.
