Presumably, those calling for shoot-to-kill as sole police tactic don't want terrorists on trial to get testimony about links, reasons.
Often taken to extremes, as we see in the myriad shootings of black youths in the US. Even w actual "tangos" (Boston being an exception.)

Sure. But going back to my earlier point: tactics that could be potentially useful are instead labelled cowardly, unpatriotic etc.

I'd like to see more of them tried & convicted in courts of law. But the media often hype their platforms in covering them (eg. Breivik)

Ways they are being radicalized inside the country, their contacts in communities and State must be scrutinized publicly.

Totally agreed on that. But media has a ways to go to learn to cover these stories responsibly (ie. not amplifying radicalization.)

This is one of the dangers. Another is for experience to remain in the shadows and be perennially sensationalized. Think of trials of Nazis

It's my understanding that units are trained to shoot to "stop the threat." Which, as the article says, targets the largest body mass.

Arguably, the fact that these canisters looked ridiculous to me doesn't mean officers neutralizing them could discount them as harmless.
