Expecting this to happen to every European election where fascists are contenders. Last minute kompromat sloppy thohttps://twitter.com/kennethlipp/status/860623477455368192 …
A loaded term? The term existed long before the DNC leaks http://www.nytimes.com/1999/03/24/world/yeltsin-s-inner-circle-under-investigation-for-corruption.html … and was routinely applied to describe similar operations

I don't object to use of the term, I'm saying it describes a specific/different tactic than dumping docs, kompromat is blackmail material.
-
Such troves are arguably blackmail material (Greek politics also work like that). Dumping is just usually a last recourse tactic
-
Allllllllllll I'm saying is that info made public can't be kompromat.
-
Agreed, in that after the fact, it's rendered unusable for blackmail :)
-
But that's the only part we have any info on, Asteris!
-
That doesn't preclude methodological observations. Btw, I got similar flak when talking about Israeli hasbara during the Gaza wars
-
I'm not giving you flack, just a point of definition between colleagues.
-
Not offended, mate, saying it's hard to pin down the live minutiae of such practices. Wish we had more overt examples for academic research

of course it existed before the DNC leaks, it's a Cold War era term, it's presently loaded because of the use to describe the DNC leaks.
-
I've personally used it yrs before the DNC leaks, and am not partial to "Benghazi"-ing of that sort.
-
But you'd admit there are tons of people using it that recently had never heard of it, yes? Not saying you loaded it, but it's loaded.
-
Of course I wouldn't disagree it's been overused lately, but it hasn't been as egregious as, say, Benghazi.

or "normalize."
