Finally finished #Witcher2, w.o reading the books or playing W1. Mixed bag overall but worth playing story-wise, if you can stand the combatpic.twitter.com/eWfGHrYwza

The Witcher setting feels much more immersive/complex than similar fantasy patchwork efforts, like say, Dragon Age. And is as brutal as #GoT
In terms of presentation, Witcher 2's effortlessly brilliant/optimized competence (in Enhanced Ed.) puts to shame even 2016-7 AAA titles
Witcher 2 & Ethan Carter, another stunningly beautiful Polish game, ran flawlessly on my old rig. Visually, they're still pinnacle game tech
Voice acting & facial animations/body language in #Witcher2 are, for the most part, exceptional. Go stand in the corner & cry, #MEAndromeda
Intrigue/politics form the heavy metal core of #Witcher2. As unbelievably convoluted, opaque, compromising & fucked up as anything in news
But the real coup #Witcher2 pulled is the asymmetric decision tree, trumping almost anything else in gaming. Esp. 3-button "choice" endings
Chars hold lengthy, intelligent convos that confuse as much as expose, beyond advancing plot points. And every decision has consequences
Will you be jumping into 3? It's significantly better, larger and more compelling.
Oh, certainly, I was getting to that, for the story alone. But my major reservations are combat/handling & UX. Bought W3 GotY at any rate
you'd like 3 better. Combat is significantly streamlined, plus 3's constant updates refined the UI. You're entering a superior product.
It's a shame really, that the frustrating combat puts me off & playing all asymmetric decision tree consequences in 2 (best bit of the game)
yeah I remember it putting me off too. And 2's intro sequence is just terrible at introducing the system.
And apparently W1 was even worse on that respect. Too bad, b/c I would've loved to explore its story/locations (don't mind graphics so much)
yep I never played 1 but you can see it already looks janky as hell. I would totally get into it too if it wasn't for that lone barrier.
