The other major criticism of this ep in forums is "contrivance" of what essentially is a bit of (very accurate) historical reenactment.

Black Sails often toes a challenging line like that, being written as to forgo full historicity, but when it reenacts, it does it superbly.

Having said all that, it really is a stunning, pivotal & expertly crafted ep in a narrative that draws to its close like a (pirate) champ.

But, damn, I won't be able to get that scene out of my head for a very long time. And apparently the finale is equally+ traumatizing.
