Mine too. I think I read two literary books this year, tops. I think you'll like City of Stairs.
I read plenty of Melanie Rawn decades ago, found her series fascinating. But mostly female scifi authors (Cherryh, Norton, Le Guin)

Yeah, I read Melanie Rawn too. Never got into Cherryh, some Norton, adore Le Guin. Was mostly reading men in SF. Niven, Heinlein.
-
Cherryh is one of my fave prolific authors. Do at least give Downbelow Station a chance, it's as contemporary as it gets
-
I keep hearing good things. Will try. There was a book with fuzzy critters on the front I abandoned at 15, no basis to reject her.
-
hah, told you, "prolific" is the word. Her output is uneven, but I loved plenty of her work, esp. the Company Wars setting
-
Noted. I was wrong about a lot of stuff I wrote off as a kid.
-
btw, sure enough Kadath (see prev) had some Jemisin titles stocked, I'll look for the others too next time I visit

Avoid first trilogy Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. It's fine, but she was just cutting her teeth. Also, 5th Season is hardcore tragic.
