Even though, on balance, I kinda liked R1's ragtag rebel squad, Daisy Ridley's Mary Sue remains the most engaging new char in the franchise

Aw, c'mon, don't call her a Mary Sue. How gritty, by the way? Major character death gritty? Thinking about my kid seeing it.

erm, not exactly Revenge of the Sith-traumatic, but close in intent. (She's an archetypical Mary Sue, but Daisy made her work fine)

Thanks...I haven't seen Revenge of The Sith, I gave up at Attack of the Clones, but will ponder.

unfortunately, Rogue One has none of the artistry of, say, Westworld in establishing chars. But crowds will enjoy it regardless

Sure. Just my kid is unusually tender-hearted for a 12 year old, and if likeable main characters die I'll never hear the end of it.

better wait on it then. And withhold Revenge for a bunch more yrs. Watched it w my nephew recently, it was a gut-wrenching mistake

Yikes. Not sure I can keep him off Rogue One, with all the hype, but will warn him.

it's a pity, there's so much creative talent that could pull off a much better version of R1 beyond painting by numbers

having just watched Westworld, an exemplary study on doing exactly that (for Dolores & Maeve), R1 fares poorly by comparison
