Plenty of gripes are viable, beginning with the unoriginality, but it's hard not to get swept in, esp. w the old cast chewing up the scenery

As for the new cast, Daisy Ridley carries it all by herself, making every scene she's in work through sheer force of will.
-
Arguably, if Portman was more like Ridley, the prequels might have worked. Otoh, Driver channels too much Christensen for my liking.
-
Thank the Force for Kasdan for making the writing click, but he should've known that loss requires familiarity. Much exposition glossed over
-
Not to spoil anything but I'm underwhelmed by generic (cobbled together from other sagas) CGI villainy w.o any buildup. This deserved better

I wonder what the new gen of kids starstruck by Star Wars will grow up into. A New Hope did it for me, glad TFA can do it for them.
-
On the canon downside, TFA probably invalidates the Thrawn Trilogy for good. A pity, it really deserved a shot at the big screen.
-
For its next trick, I hope the new trilogy can grow out of the shadow of the original one, while remaining true to form (that means you, JJ)

We really need some THX theaters in Greece. Paying cineplex price w.o the full format experience in a movie like this is a real downer.

@asteris I prefer to never mention the abomination of 1-3. This new movie was for me the real Star Wars universe. -
@AngelaLoRosso agreed. With the caveats I touch on, afaic. It's good enough to woo new audiences, but I would've loved more character work
