Really regretted not having lugged my 300mm zoom lens to Lesvos that day, couldn't capture much with my 18-55mm, or the phone
Seeing as reports of Turkish CG harassment of boats are frequent, question is: are they acting under orders, or going rogue for fun/profit?
Anyway, that's the whole point of reporting from the field. That's what we saw on binocs, and heard from refugees when they landed that day
Whether on orders, or for fun/profit, important to dissuade Turkish Coast Guard from such hijinks, people on the boats can die b/c of them.
Also impt to point out that Greek CG in Lesvos often intercedes to protect refugees, per reports. Earlier pushback incidents not repeated.
Having seen Greek Coast Guard crews bringing refugees ashore, they looked professional & respectful. Though they were stern with us photogs
Lastly, before Molyvos decided to drive refugees out of town, CG crews rapported well w local/expat volunteers. They actually needed them.
That's the earlier incident I meant, not repeated since afaik. Positively sadistic. Must be investigatedhttps://twitter.com/mpodil/status/642065638710734848 …
