This is because clearsighted analysis of what is necessary, and what is contingent, is the prime requisite.https://twitter.com/asteris/status/620750617406009344 …
@JayStephens the reason why scifi is better at that is that being informed & humanist are its core competences. Not so with econ, really.

@asteris Fair point. My fave utopias: Banks, LeGuin. Fave dystopias: Early Gibson, Dick. Most common econ. flaw: Overestimating statism. -
@JayStephens Banks always made it hard for me to start on his stuff, then he passed away. Plenty good fare in recent decades, branch out :) -
@asteris Have missed heaps recently. Good stuff I have caught: Rajaniemi (his econ is amazing!), Cixin Liu, Egan (The Clockwork Rocket) 1/2 -
@JayStephens ah, Quantum Thief too complicated, DNF for now; Egan I always liked but takes a lot of effort, Liu's in my next batch to read -
@asteris if you haven't read Naam's Nexus, you're in for a treat :) -
@JayStephens turns out I already had Nexus marked to read, I'll expedite :)

@asteris hadn't struck me b4,but Pickety's Capital feels like he's fumbling towards ideas SF has clearly expressed decades ago in places.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
