"€500m deal last month to upgrade five ageing US-made P-3B Orion aircraft while slashing funds for anti-poverty projects" #Greece

@asteris EAB staff are highly trained engineers, with degrees in aeronautical design, metallurgy etc. We need bright scientists working. -
.
@ecpoir €500m isn't peanuts, at a time when the govt is seizing public sector funds by decree to pay debts -
@asteris I agree, but it won't be paid in 2015. I think only 35 mill. from that deal is payable in 2015. -
@ecpoir that's the largest problem, we keep mortgaging the future. On a clear day, you can see debts forever. -
@asteris My point is, if we MUST pay for weapons, I prefer to pay EAB (a Greek State industry) than any foreign company.

@asteris Of course they would prefer we buy new ones. The deal you refer to will help keep alive EAB (Greek company) and its employees. -
.
@ecpoir I didn't say I trust arms dealers to say what's in a country's best interests. But exorbitant def spending got us here in 1st place -
@asteris True. Nevertheless, the alternative was leaving the Aegean sea patrols to Turkish command. Quite a dilemma.
