@asteris @elenapapad we use TOMA in Turkish because its the abbreviation for "vehicle for social intervention". Why TOMA in Greek/English?

@idilika I put it in quotes for comparison purposes, ofc they're called differently here (some people call them "αύρες") -
@asteris Is "avres" an abbreviation then? We Turks are delighted to "contribute" to street protest vocabulary with "toma"
-
@idilika no, 'avres' (breezes) were the APCs deployed by the colonels' junta against protests, the name stuck to the new beast as well -
@asteris look at the irony or rather greek tragedy! Either Turkish abbreviation for police vehicle or one left from junta
