@asteris Plus most old school Amnesty campaigns still took years...
It used to be that @Amnesty could free prisoners of conscience with snail mail. Why is it so hard to mount tweet petitions in the thousands?

@curtiskj sure, but there are still campaigns going on for years. No sense of traction & no concrete steps in many cases -
@asteris Point neo.g I think you're overestimating effectiveness of old school campaigns. Why would tech change that? -
@curtiskj btw, campaigning to rouse Euro support powered the Greek Revolution of 1821. Also, helped democracy movt against colonels' junta -
@asteris That was also a long time ago when 20 billion things weren't clamoring for attention... -
@curtiskj true. I just wonder sometimes, if shit hit the fan again over here, would the world care this time at all? -
@asteris I don't think it's a matter of whether anyone would care as certainly some would. Issue is whether you could gain a critical mass. -
@curtiskj I know. For instance, Bahrain fell below critical mass of int'l interest a year and a half ago, and never again regained it

@Marinamas clicktivism "attention deficit" is the main reason, but I suspect, not the only one. This really bugs me -
@asteris Surely not the only one. In times like these most people think more about their own country and interest. Italy navel-watching -
@Marinamas I know, strange melange of voeyeurist internationalism & navelgazing. See me prev 2 tweets, abt special tie to Greek history -
@asteris your perfect English never fails to amaze me. Good night - from a country where people come to die (Lampedusa tragedy today) -
@Marinamas καληνύχτα. Mi dispiace tanto :( -
@asteris Bravissimo. I could not say that in Greek! Ciao :-)
