I never get why people RT trolls, it's practically the opposite of "don't feed". Feels esp jarring to see ppl I respect RT ppl trolling them
@SaraAssaf don't think so, check @curtiskj's replies for an explanation; but I still disagree with the logic, trolls crave attention

@asteris Keep in mind that while RT'ing them gives attention, it often brings an army of support on your side@SaraAssaf -
@curtiskj practically speaking, is this effective? I mean, in making a dent on that kind of egregious trolling -
@asteris Excessive troll RTs drives me up the wall as it's mostly attn seeking. But I do understand why some ppl do it from time to time. -
@curtiskj I'm not talking about some people from time to time; I see several people I respect do it all the time, which is what perplexes me -
@asteris There are some people who will spend 6 hours doing just that. That's infuriating. But the occasional RT I often understand. -
@curtiskj me too, it's the SNR that gets me & the aggregated viciousness. Ppl who go out of their way to RT trolls I'll have to unfollow

@asteris Sometimes (not always) thats the best way to shut them down@SaraAssaf -

@SaraAssaf@curtiskj auto-takedown v mass-reporting is double-edged. Conversely, eg., Greek fascists took down innocuous activist accts -
-
@SaraAssaf ever has been. Remember the IRC days? I've accepted the netiquette rules of engagement on trolls, but I realize TMTOWTDI -
@asteris Yeah. Fair enough. The whole social media scene is immature & at its beginnings still. We're all still testing & learning.
