@asteris XFCE isn't bad, sorta like a Gnome-lite. You looking for minimalist or full environment?
So then: I've had it with the gelded Gnome, hate Unity & don't particularly like KDE4. What other options do I have for a Linux desktop?

@RichardFantin thanks, XFCE is the only alternative I know of. Let's say I want a balanced desktop (kinda what Gnome 2 managed to become) -
@asteris .. and then there's Enlightenment (one of my personal favs, but not very standard) -> http://www.linuxfocus.org/common/images/figure29-2.jpg … -
@RichardFantin um, I ditched Enlightenment back before Gnome became functional, was leery of it ever since. Has it markedly improved? -
@asteris Oh yea, ever since 3. All major desktops have come a long ways.. that was long ago man :) Enlightenment was ahead of its time. -
@RichardFantin it was also ahead of resources available :p I'll probably check out all of them, wish I had a live CD that included them all -
@asteris Well yea, that was it's problem. They were trying to implement advanced graphical effects from scratch. Much easier to do now.
