If #Syria opposition gets an air capability that'd send outside powers scrambling. most don't want it to happen http://bbc.in/V5raGE
@weddady technically, is it feasible for rebels to achieve air superiority anywhere, assuming they even have pilots ready to fly these MiGs?

@asteris no, the jets captured are L-39's that could be used as bombers. They need fuel, mechanics & ordonance all of which r unavailable -
@weddady didn't know that, article says MiGs. Could they achieve local air superiority anywhere even if they'd captured fighter jets? -
@asteris no, the regime has both the jets, and the radar network that will guarantee it maintains air superiority.

@asteris that article is a classical example of rushed analysis by media orgs not based on any military knowledge. -
@weddady thought so, looks boilerplate even at a perfunctory read -
@asteris the only way opposition can do it is to destroy actual regime airbases to deny it the ability to operate an air force. -
@weddady ..and for that reason, AFBs are usually some of the most hardened targets, and take a lot of casualties to put out of commission -
@asteris the only possible scenario for opposition is to use helicopters as recon & local close support in small determined spaces

@asteris also it has a mistake at the end: Assad took power in 1970 not 1963. 1963 was the first baath coup.#HalfBakedThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
