@asteris Always surprised to hear men say they are not feminists. Question should be 'what would you do if you were a woman?'

@zoemavroudi am I only allowed to be concerned about women's rights if I'm a feminist? I'm an equalist, if you need to apply a tag -
@asteris Are you only allowed to be an equalist if you are not a feminist? How are these mutually exclusive? -
@zoemavroudi sophistry. Please, I didn't denigrate feminism, don't denigrate my right to self-determination -
@asteris >I reap the benefits of feminism every day. If I said I'm not a feminist, I'd be a hypocrite. In other words, you're a man. -
@zoemavroudi if you persist in binarythink. Ofc the movement has gender-specific attributes but there are men who self-describe as feminists

@asteris i think it's the 'supposedly illumined' bit that makes it bitter. maybe we should ditch any idea of vanguard (political or geek) -
.
@danmcquillan I reserve the right to take special exception to systemic discrimination in groups/movements I have supported & promoted -
@asteris fair play. i've got my list too. just don't let it become bitterness :) -
@danmcquillan bitterness? It pisses me off that we'd allow lower standards within our communities than those we seek to apply in the world -
@asteris maybe one tactic is to hybridise c.f. the girl geek initiatives -
@danmcquillan good point; another, more important, tactic is for communities/movements to be honest & open to criticism -
@asteris which connects back to the 'vanguard' point; if your rep depends on being superior in some way, you aren't going to fess up
