#PhoenixPoint reminds me mostly of Xcom Apocalypse, the most outlandish (and psychedelic) entry in the series. Aliens in Apoc actually looked menacing & alien, the vibe was nightmarish, and combat was unforgiving.

I don't think I'd be able to run a successful XcomApoc campaign nowadays. Took months of meticulous planning and cautious deployment to steamroll the ayys on that game (with toxins, obviously). No casualties, but only b/c I save/load a lot in these games.
