In all stages of the news cycle over Khashoggi and Saudi, spare a thought on how the new geopolitical landscape affects Arab dissidents & freethinkers worldwide. This isn't just about reflexive horror of the media elite over the dispatching of one of their own. Or shouldn't be.
Of course it is, but it's also reinforced/field-tested through it, eg. in how all govts/admins involved are trial balooning their spin. On the receiving end will be more people exposed to persecution, torture & murder.

Sadly I'm not sure that can be avoided. As someone else said here earlier this week, it looks like a multipolar world will be far more disasterous for individuals than anyone previously thought.

We can sure as hell fight to oppose it. I'll never accept that fascism (and authoritarianism in general) is an unstoppable, self-fulfilling prophecy.

Of course. But based on my experience of the last two years and watching others around the world, it becomes an issue of domestic damage control. So govts like KSA that have never been free have even greater range to be horrid. With zero accountability.
