Said lunatic has precedent in projecting brutal force: abducting & allegedly torturing the Lebanese PM into resigning while in captivity, turning a 5-star hotel into a torture/extortion camp https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/03/12/saudi-general-may-have-tortured-death-ritz-carlton-crackdown/amp/ …https://twitter.com/tomgara/status/1049824617446158336 …

Mohammad bin Salman began his "reform" with house arrests in the Ritz Carlton, to extort money and concessions. It doesn't require a poly-sci degree to discern the only reform was changing the nameplate, modernizing is merely the window dressing to filter the real view.

True, but it's more than that. As Jamal kept pointing out in interviews, the degree of personal-brand authoritarianism MBS is ushering in is unusual even by Saudi standards.

I agree, he is a heavy handed authoritarian, which is why the house arrests alarmed me, he was consolidating power. The princes are often rival with each other, but not so brazenly open.

Yup, it's why activists, advocacy groups & investigative outlets were urging an int'l response when he was running a torture club, or mass-arresting women activists. These things always escalate when left unchecked.
